AJAX VERTICAL CENTRIFUGAL SUMP PUMP REPAIR
CUSTOMER:
JOB OVERVIEW:
This AJAX sump pump was vibrating badly and significantly down on performance. The pump is critical to keep water levels from rising and flooding a switchroom.
CHALLENGES

Pump has never been overhauled so was in poor condition.

The issues have developed in the wet season so a quick turn around was needed.

Bearing housing bolts had broken, damaging the machined spigot. Coupling bolts were broken and obsolete.

Bottom journal bearing was worn and needed replacement.
-
Impeller to casing wear ring clearance was excessive.
-
Large solids were able to enter the impeller eye and get caught due to a damaged suction screen.
-
Motor bearings were noisy, casing was heavily corroded.

Lead time on replacement pump (8 weeks) was unacceptable and like for like replacements no longer available
SOLUTION:
-
Machine and balance impeller.
-
Machine and fit casing wear ring.
-
Weld repair of bearing lantern and re-machine spigot.
-
Thordon journal bearing.
-
New high tensile coupling bolts to suit existing cone ring coupling.
-
New WEG EXD electric motor.
-
New 316 SS suction screen.
-
Epoxy ceramic internal coating.
-
2Pack epoxy external coating.
RESULT:
-
Pump was repaired, re-installed and commissioned successfully within 2 weeks from removal.

Vibration is low and pump output is as good as new.
-
Pump was repaired for less than 50% of the cost of an equivalent replacement and in a 1/4 of the time.
